I, the pessimist says 2008.
Sorry Matt, I love you bro, but honestly, it takes you forever to do anything.

Since there's an order to this stuff before every boy and girl in America can have a copy of the new album...we'll all need to take up hobbies to pass the time. Like shuffleboard...or bird watching.

Obviously, you (the general public) want to be signed to a label that knows how to promote their artists, maintains good connections with radio stations and indie distributors, and doesn't financially rob/ruin you with money advances...or a lack thereof. I would like to see them end up with a nice deal. I can see them doing well on the Barsuk, Merge or Bar-None side of the record label fence...at least that way you know there will be some definite buzz.

As long as they don't worry too much about what people (or Pitchfork) are going to think, I'm sure they'll end up writing something they're all proud of at the end of the day. That's all that should really matter...

I'd like to see them play with The Hold Steady...random thought.

Okay, I'm done talking.

No, The Rentals already paid their dues as a "college-rock" band in the mid-90s, though they weren't on an indie label, if there was a pitchfork/tiny mix tapes/that type of stuff around back then, they would have been involved with that. Time for The Rentals to take over the world and show everyone that synth-rock can actually have good songs, and not be stupid eye-liner wearing bullshit. That's right, fuck The Killers. The Rentals need a good deal on a major label that can get their music across to everyone, but a deal that won't screw them out of money/ownership of songs.

Haha, most of you said second half of 2007. I sense disappointment a-brewin'. Obviously no one remember 2001 when Matt said he'll release his album in 2002.

it's all about timing and letting things happen naturally

band starts up (huzzah)...band tours all summer (sweeet)...resumes writing in the fall...continues writing as a band in the winter...finalizes songs, demos to record labels, play a few gigs, gets signed and begins recording in the spring/summer(?) ...band begins touring and releases album in the second half of 2007 (totally gnar gnar). Regardless...the buzz and the momentum are still apparent.

oragami and banzai tree trimming are excellent ways of practicing eastern influenced meditation and concentration techniques... it'll pass the time.

Nope, the band will record the album before getting signed (unless something surprising happens).
A label, be it major or indie, would much rather sign a band with a finished product.

now that I think about it...it makes perfectly good sense
I've seen a few instances with that scenario recently

It be nice if they would release maybe an early version of one of there songs if they plan to make us wait till 2008, I think waiting till 08 with nothing to show would just be cruel.
