SARA’S DEPARTURE FROM THE RENTALS

Hi friends!

As The Rentals to be able to dedicate all of my time to my new band, Calamity Magnet.

I am so thankful Matt asked me to move to Los Angeles from Texas to help him start the group back up again, and I leave The Rentals with amazing memories and the experience of having worked with some of the best musicians I know.  I wish each any every one of them all of the success in the world.

While it makes me sad to leave that experience behind, I have realized that what makes me happiest is being a songwriter, and that's where my focus should be returning to at this point in my life.

So many of you have been so supportive and welcoming of Calamity Magnet, and by golly, that means the world to me!  I really hope to see some of you on our upcoming Summer tour.

A couple of years ago, Matt asked me to arrange an a capella version of The Rentals' "Getting By" from a female perspective.  He was toying around with the idea of performing it live that way.  While we ultimately decided to go with the rocked up album version at our shows, I thought it might be nice to let you guys and gals hear what I came up with.  (It's a little out of tune, but it's a demo so I think that's allowed. Smiley  )  I have temporarily posted it to my solo MySpace music page as a tribute and goodbye to my time in the band.  I hope you enjoy it!

So now what?  Well, Calamity Magnet have a new EP out (available through our MySpace page), a Summer tour starting in a couple of weeks, and plans to begin our first full-length record when we return.  We also just shot a video for "Movin' On" and will be posting that in the next couple of weeks.

And now, as fan, I await the new Rentals record.  I have a feeling it's going to be a good one.

xoxo,
Sara Radle

This news upsets me. I do understand the need to go out and write her own material though.

I'm also itching for some more Rentals news, namely when shall we see another tour or record.

I get the feeling somebody in the Rentals might be hugging up the creative writing process. But at least it seems something is getting done towards the new album, but that might be me being optimistic.

Laugh out loud. I like how everyone who can play an instrument wants to be a songwriter. Sara should have stuck with The Rentals.
There's an abundance of pretty girls who can sing and play keyboards, she won't be hard to replace at all. Next time maybe she won't ruin Sweetness and Tenderness by "over singing" like she was on American Idol. You're in the fucking Rentals, get a clue. Personally, I think she had a little bit too much control on the EP, listen to her music, the EP, and then listen to 7MM. It's her influence that made it so girly and weak. The sad part is this is going to delay the album even longer. I was right when I predicted late 2009.

I wouldn't really say she over sang it, I think the vocals are delivered in a very similar way to the ROTR version.

It's definitely girlier, but I will have to wait till they come out with a new song before ill point the blame finger on her for that(maybe Matt has gotten soft on us Tongue).

I really hope your wrong about this part, I am going to say early 2009.

this is lame because:

she was really hot.
she had a nice voice.
the album is gonna get pushed back.

I'm really losing hope w/ The Rentals.

I'm guessing that one reason she left may be because there is no progress being made with the new rentals record.
I hope I'm wrong

are all canadians as harsh and caustic as you?
or were you dumped by a red head when you were younger.
you know she was a solo act before the rentals right?
it's kind of hard to sing your own songs if you're not a songwriter.
grow up man. and she added what she added to the group.
no one person is ever a band. and those kind of bands that are
driven by only one person more often than not tends to suffer creatively.
i sympathize for sara.
i know in cananda artists get subsidized by the government, but
here in the US when you, for example, take as long as matt took to
actually put out his solo work, then you may have to be taking up
a second job. which alot of my friends in san antonio do since
they can't make a living solely on music.
i saw her band calamity magnet and had a pretty good time.
and that's all i care about as an end result.
i'm blue about not seeing any new news about an album from the rentals too,
but honestly, i wouldn't be blaming sara on it.

Not necessarily what I heard, but I won't name names. But from what I saw, the band seemed to be kind of split in half, as far as who was friends with who. But who cares....at least Ben and Rachel the bad ass are still in the band....if only they would get that dog. to reform for a split tour.

lollerz. thanks for telling us you know something but won't tell us.
group dynamics are always fun to talk over, but to be honest, I'd be surprised
if there wasn't some friction.
i mean really, 6 members plus an on lease guitarist for tours.
they're almost bordering on lynard skynard porportions.

also, i second the motion to have a that dog reunion.
