Hi,
For those who missed the news on twitter and facebook, a new tribute album is out.
The album is called "Lost out in the machinery", and it s a Japanese CD.
This album seems to be the final physical form of previous tribute album "Friends of P. - A tribute to The Rentals"). The previous tribute album was only released online.
(for more info about previous tribute album, please have a look at the following thread:
http://www.mattsharp.net/fanboard/index.php/topic,2650.0.html
)

A Japanese page talking about the album (with audio samples):
http://www.onlyindreams.com/disks/therentals/tribute.html

An interview of Matt (in Japanese too) about this album:
http://www.onlyindreams.com/magazine/interview/2010-06-rentals01.html
http://www.onlyindreams.com/magazine/interview/2010-06-rentals02.html
http://www.onlyindreams.com/magazine/interview/2010-06-rentals03.html

Official Japanese site:
http://www.therentalstribute.jp/

The track listing of the new album:

01. THE LOVE I'M SEARCHING FOR / YEAH YEAH YEAHS
02. FRIENDS OF P. / TOKYO POLICE CLUB
03. WAITING / MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK
04. HE CRUISE / MORNINGWOOD
05. MY HEAD IS IN THE SUN / ABERFELDY
06. THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS / TEGAN & SARA
07. GETTING BY / COPELAND
08. PLEASE LET THAT BE YOU / ASH
09. MOVE ON / THE HELIO SEQUENCE
10. CALIFORNIA / OZMA
11. HELLO HELLO / ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATIONbonus track
12. A ROSE IS A ROSE (Japanese Version) / THE RENTALS & MASAFUMI GOTOH

As you can see, this is the previous tribute album with 5 more songs.
The "new" songs are:
01. THE LOVE I'M SEARCHING FOR / YEAH YEAH YEAHS
03. WAITING / MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK
10. CALIFORNIA / OZMA
11. HELLO HELLO / ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATIONbonus track
12. A ROSE IS A ROSE (Japanese Version) / THE RENTALS & MASAFUMI GOTOH

Song 1 come from AOL live session (I wonder if the intro is included, when the singer says the song is called "you should be with me")
Song 3 and 10 were not realeased on previous tribute album (it seems they were supposed too according to previous post).
Song 11 comes from Asian Kung-fu Generation single Fujisawa Loser.
Song 12 is a B-Side of chapter 3 of Songs About Time.

The CD can be purchased on Amazon Japan (it s a bit expensive to get it outside Japan).
(you can also find some reference on Amazon France, Amazon UK, and GEMM.com)

Regards

Hi,
I just received the copy I ordered on Amazon Japan.
The first song (THE LOVE I'M SEARCHING FOR / YEAH YEAH YEAHS) does not include the short intro (but it does include the short outtro).
The last song (A ROSE IS A ROSE (Japanese Version) / THE RENTALS & MASAFUMI GOTOH) is listed as "Bonus Track for Japan" on the back of the CD, so maybe an American/European version of the album is planned (but without this track).
Regards

I'd be all over this if it wasn't so expensive. I never downloaded the original US version but this looks a lot nicer.

I love Asian Kung-Fu Generation's cover of "Hello, Hello", downloaded that a while back. Also, got to see Ozma play "California" during a sound check at the Double Door in Chicago. I was sitting in the club cause it was hot as hell and I had my press pass. Ozma was tuning up and goofing a bit on stage and they stared to play the opening of "California" and Slegr stared doing the high falsetto of the song and the few of us around took notice. I recognized the song, but no one else did, so I thought, "Hey, most probably don't know the song." Then half way through it, I hear another falsetto pop it, and it's Matt joining in. One of those cool moments you just love.

So almost a year later and I finally got it. I ordered it for <$20 from play asia. Came in today and I just finished it. Some are good. Some are meh. But it's nice to hear different takes on classic tunes.
