Long time, no posts.

I wonder if anyone here at present has any ideas for a Rentals covers project, be it a bunch of assorted cover songs, or covering an entire LP by one of their influential bands?? Like, who'd want to hear an arpeggiated Wurlitzer or Fender-Rhodes (but hopefully the Wurlitzer, since it's the most underappreciated of the two) electric piano played by Matt Sharp?

In 2005, ex-Rentals violinist/singer Petra Haden had covered, in its entirety, The Who's 1967 album The Who Sell Out, an album which had songs intertwined with pirate radio jingles (which she also did on her version, of course). But I think she could've done better than doing a cappella.

Cover songs:
Karn Evil #9 Suite (All Three Impressions) by Emerson, Lake & Palmer (1973)
Just What I Needed by The Cars (1978)
Dust in the Wind by Kansas (1977)
Midnight Rambler by The Rolling Stones (1969) (lots of Chicago blues-type harmonica here)

My ideas for the Rentals covering an entire album:
Quadrophenia by The Who (1973) (Jam-rock band Phish already did so)
Breakfast in America by Supertramp (1979)
The Grand Illusion by Styx (1977) (this was the first of four consecutive Styx albums to go multiplatinum)

not agreeing or disagreeing, but none of those ideas seem to be in the general direction that the rentals/matt sharp are headed in

so I want to write my words on the face of today.

The Alan Parsons Project- I Robot

This Alan Parsons Project song from 1977 makes heavy use of both Wurlitzer EP and the clavinet. It shares its title with a Will Smith movie.

What songs do you in your mind think that Matt Sharp and/or the Rentals could cover in the future?

I could see them covering Surfer Blood. Their stiles would mesh together well.
