they were fantas-great. they only played five or six songs, because they were playing at a rally on campus, but they wore matching outfits and danced and were awesome. they played a show that night downtown, but i couldn't make it. good stuff though.

I went to see Chicks on Speed when I was home in Houston for Thanksgiving break, but it was just the DJ. Or something.

Some highlights from this year have been:
-The Hives (I think that was 05...)
-The Joggers
-Austin City Limits Festival (I personall saw The Arcade Fire, Blues Traveler, Franz Ferdinand, The Walkmen, M83, Mates of State, Death Cab for Cutie, Spoon, The Allman Brothers, Buddy Guy, Widespread Panic, Oasis, The New Amsterdams, Kaiser Chiefs, and Tortoise).
-Ben Folds, at an Austin City Limits Taping
-Architecture in Helsinki
-The (International) Noise Conspiracy (free show on campus!!)
-MIA

I think the only concert that I know of coming up is Explosions in the Sky, which should be good. I wanted to buy a bus ticket to go see Matt play, but I have class that I have to go to on Friday, and the buses take a while. Oh, well. Next year I am my friends' mom's travel companion for work (she works for Continental), which means that I get to fly for free... which means that I will be seeing a LOT of shows. Yay! I'll likely be following The Rentals all over, if things work out.

Damn, I'm jealous.
I really wanted to go to the austin city limits festival but I kept on waiting on buying tickets
because a friend and I were going to go with her boyfriend but she just kept on putting it off until
they were sold out. same thing with built to spill with the decemberists at la zona rosa.
talk about missing great shows. It was too bad tegan and sara couldn't come because of the hurricane trouble in houston.

Go see casting couch, they're cool and it's their cd release party, it's Saturday at the carousel.
I'm trying to go, I have a friend that might go, he's militant but I think he likes this kind of music though.
I saw them originally at an AIH show, they opened then the shells, then AIH
great show. It was the show in July or so, not the september one.

Casting Couch sounds good... I'll see if I can make it, because I was looking for something fun to do on Saturday night anyway.

As for Austin City Limits, you should always show up, even if you don't have a ticket, because people are always selling them for way cheap along Barton Springs Road and whatnot. I was pretty upset about missing Tegan and Sara; damn hurricane.

Yea, that livejournal thing was started up by some girl in san marcos or austin
So she posted about them. I'd like to check them out some time.
I downloaded all the stuff that they had on their site and they're fun.
The hurricane was funny. Not really funny haha, but more as they were saying SA would
get horrible torrential rains and it would be havoc and all that, but in fact when the
hurricane hit it was probably the most hottest day of the summer.
Not half as bad as New Orleans, but of course that's because Houston isn't 5 feet under the sea level.

well that's what I'm saying. What happened to New Orleans happened to NO
because of ignoring infastructure problems for years.
Nothing's been done about it because of the cost.
Watch this whole thing become forgotten until next year when the same strength or more hurricanes hit again.

add casting couch and orange mothers.
casting couch was cool. I bought their cd (row your boat),
an i eat records compilation cd and then a tshirt that doesn't fit me...
Sad
Meand my friend stayed for the orange mother show,
which everyone told me was kind of a reunion of sorts
and that they were an austin mainstay.
They were neat.
At the end of their show I looked for all of the casting couch people
and got them to sign the cd. I found out one of the guys has a band
that played in SA like a week ago that I would have checked out if I knew.
I also had a few drinks too many.
I think it was the hour and a half drive on the ride back home
but I puked most of my dinner when I was about 15 minutes from the apt.
Thank goodness my friend was driving.

WOW this thread died a while ago . . .
lets see if it can be revived.

Christmas cashed me out, so i didnt see much last year, but i did catch The Adored and local faves the Mojo Filters on new years at the ECHO.

I saw GIANT DRAG and Warlocks recently, and a few local bands i cant remember. . .
the bigger stuff has been . .. . one of the 20+ Social D concerts they had recently at the House of everything but the Blues. .. . . and i caught a Pennywise reunion show.

I also got a free pass to see (dont Laugh) Panic At the Disco - sounded like it would be a Smiths cover band or something, so i went. Total emo schlock - Fallout boy meets BLAH BLAH BLAH . . . .
but it was at Chain Reaction (the CBGB of the west coast?) anyone else from southern CA been there? -  its in a damn strip mall in the ghettos of Anaheim.

I missed Tegan and Sarah AGAIN when they did that sunshine tour with CAKE.  Anyone catch it?

I'm saving $$$ to buy my cousins MOOG so i'll cut out of the concert scene for a while, but i want to go to Coachella to catch LADYTRON.

That was really odd.  However, someone made a really funny comment: How the hell did one of my all time fave bands /songs / music vids end up associated with weed? - Is "friends of P" code for some really powerfull, extra sticky strain of Kush? - Ooo Woo Hoo Hoo indeed!

I saw Cruiserweight like last month, it was a good show. Only thing that sucked was that I had to sit threw a bunch of shitty emo highschool bands  undecided

hey josh

i've been raving about Moogs to my older cousin for like a year now and they're so expensive.  I was thinkin a middle grade like a ROGUE or Prodigy, i hear the concertmate are great but can go for over 300 alone - why not pay a few more bens and get the more features of the others?

anyway, i like the OPUS 3 cause its the one i know from ROTR i know its POLYPHONIC and that might not be purist enough to some but it looks cool.  Moreover, i cant stand the SOURCE cause of the membrane interface and not enough "on the fly" controls.

I've seem OPUS 3s for up to 800 (ebay is very inconsistant) so i've been hesitant.  then there was one for 525 buy it now and i told my cousin, but my luck on EBAY is for shit on electronics and i new i'd have to put more into it so i flaked.
My cousin saw one come up the same day for 425 BIN and jumped on it.  He's older and knows more about the Minis played by keith emerson and rick wakeman.
He lucked out, it came and its in great condition.  He fixes amps on the side and isnt scared of a soldering iron so he'll replace a few stiff sliders ( he found a guy in HONGKONG that is "reverse manufacturing" vintage moogs.  Hes even making a membrane for the SOURCE!
My cousom loves it but may just get a vintage MINI with the 3 VCOs you just have more parameters to mess with the sound on those.  The OPUS is just more like funky organ with a few cool noisy effects - the VCFs are hot! it even has stereo panning! unfortunately it lacks portamento an effect i found i cant live without.

the past few days i've been thinking of just getting an old Korg poly 800 digital VCO/analog hybrid (i think that guy is playing one in the rentals practice video) they only go for about 100 and save my money for a more funky ROGUE

Is this enough info Josh?
any recomendations?
