The Rentals

Hi. I'm a newbie here, so I figured I'd introduce myself. If this isn't cool, sorry, but it seems appropriate.

I've been a Matt Sharp fan ever since I saw the Buddy Holly music video on the Windows 95 CD (this seems to be the way most people my age got into Weezer). It was a nice song and all, but I wasn't motivated enough to go out and buy one of their records -- I was too busy being a poor student and listening to whatever music I was listening to ten years ago. I still thought the blonde haired bass player mouthing "I Love You" to Joni was the coolest guy ever.

A year or so later, Weezer played my university and I was blown away. I rushed out and bought Blue and Pinkerton, which was all that was available at the time. I listened to them over and over and over again.

Anyway, I can't remember where or when I first heard of The Rentals, but it would've been a little bit after I got into Weezer. I probably read about them somewhere on the Internet. I found a copy of Return Of The Rentals in a local record shop's bargain bin. From start to finish it blew my mind.

I was a fan of both bands until Weezer and The Rentals came out with thier next records (Green and Seven More Minutes). Weezer sounded like a hollow shell of their former selves, and The Rentals were going from strength to strength.

Ever since I started playing bass guitar, Matt has been something of a hero for me. I even ended up buying an Orange Amp, partially because he used one.

To the best of my knowledge, he's never brought The Rentals to Australia. Makes me sad to think about it. Hopefully he will with this new incarnation.

Anyway, that's my intro. I don't know if I'll be logging in here a whole lot, but I thought I'd at least say hi. So, "Hi".
